India’s heavy truck and lorry transportation industry is expanding rapidly, especially in steel, cement, and building materials logistics. Despite this growth, there is a shortage of professionally trained drivers. Many come from rural and tribal backgrounds with limited access to formal education and driver training.
Nirman Foundation addresses this gap by identifying unemployed tribal and rural youth and providing structured training through a comprehensive Heavy Vehicle Driver Training Program. This program includes one month of classroom sessions covering road safety, cargo handling, vehicle maintenance, and professional conduct, followed by two months of practical, on-road training with both empty and fully loaded trucks.
The program equips trainees with the skills, confidence, and licenses required for professional employment, and connects them with reputable logistics companies and contractors.
